[...] one who detains [withholds] ecclesiastical property cannot be burdened with these troubles, the vigilance of your experience ought to be applied to the care of all solicitude of this kind, whose fidelity and diligence he also testifies to have been found proven by him, in which matter he says that the wishes of the sons of the Church likewise concur. And therefore by our present authority we charge you that, both in governing the patrimony of the Church and in keeping watch over and giving commands to the clergy of the Church of Narni and to all those things which either the obedience of divine worship or the consideration of ecclesiastical advantage demands, you do not delay to exhibit and fulfill the necessary solicitude with fitting modesty. But also, if any ecclesiastical properties are being withheld otherwise through the encroachment of certain persons or through wrongful zeal, in the reclaiming or vindicating of them, so far as justice and the laws permit, do not cease to keep vigilant watch, with the intent of recovering for the right of the aforesaid Church whatever the principle of equity shall have advised, provided only that, with reverence considered both for the authority of the Fathers and for our own, you render to the aforesaid bishop, your bishop, fitting obedience in all things.
