TO PASSIVUS, BISHOP OF FERMO. That he may consecrate the oratory of Saint Savinus. Gregory to Passivus, bishop of Fermo. Valerianus, a notary of the Church of your Fraternity, has by a petitionary representation suggested to us what is contained in the matters submitted below: that, on the estate of Visianum which is of his own right, near the walls of the city of Fermo, he has out of his own devotion founded an oratory, which he desires to have consecrated in honor of the blessed martyr Savinus. And therefore, most dear brother, if the aforesaid construction lawfully stands within your parish, and it is established that no body has there been buried, then, the lawful endowment having first been received -- that is, in revenue three solidi free from fiscal burdens and secured by the municipal records -- you shall solemnly consecrate the aforesaid oratory, without public Masses; on this condition, that in that same place no baptistery be constructed in times to come, nor that you appoint a cardinal presbyter there. And if perhaps he should prefer that Masses be performed there, let him know that a presbyter is to be requested from your Charity, so that no such thing be in any way presumed upon by any other priest. Valerianus, a notary of the church of Fermo, requests by an offered petition that the sanctuaries [relics] of the blessed martyr Savinus ought to be granted to him, so that in his [the martyr's] name the oratory built at his own expense may be solemnly consecrated. And therefore, most dear brother, it is fitting, by mandate from us, to obey the desires of the aforesaid man, so that he may attain the effect of his devotion in the consecration which he requests.
