Marcus Tullius Cicero→Acilius, proconsul of Sicily|c. 50 BC|Cicero|From Rome|To Sicily|Human translated
I commend to you Lucius Manlius Sosis, a citizen of Catina, a man of the highest standing in his community and most closely connected with me. I ask you to protect his interests and treat him with the honor due to his position and his merits. Whatever you do for him will be most welcome to me.
DCLXXXI (Fam. XIII, 32) TO MANIUS ACILIUS GLABRIO (IN SICILY) ROME: IN the town of Halesa , so well known for its wealth and high character, I have some friends very closely united to me by the ties of hospitality and intimacy named M. Clodius Archagethus and C. Clodius Philo . But I am afraid that, owing to the number of people I recommend to you, I may appear to be putting all my recommendations on the same footing from some ulterior motive. Still, I would have you believe that this family and these members of it are united to me by a long-standing friendship, by mutual services, and by goodwill. Therefore I beg you, with more than common earnestness, to oblige them in every way, as far as your honour and official position shall allow you. You will exceedingly oblige me by doing so.
XXXII. Scr. Romae a.u.c. 708. CICERO ACILIO PROCONSUL SAL.
