PELAGIUS TO BISHOP ASTERIUS [of Salerno]. Vindimius, the abbot of an oratory, has brought to our notice by his representation that which is contained below: namely, that within his monastery, which is situated in the territory near the walls of the city of Salerno, he has out of his own devotion founded an oratory, which he desires to have consecrated in honor of the blessed martyrs Chrysanthus and Daria. And therefore, if it is established that no body has been buried in that same place, you shall solemnly consecrate the aforesaid monastery without [...] public [...], yet on this condition: that if the aforesaid founder should perhaps prefer that masses be celebrated in that same place, let him know that a presbyter must be requested from your charity.
