On the words, "Our Father, who art in heaven." The Lord's teaching in the prayer, along with all the other teachings befitting God, also bids us, in the words "Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth," to pray for the peace of the powers above [the angelic ranks], declaring it to be free of all sedition; and it bids us pray that He may grant this same peace to us as well, who are upon the earth-so that, just as among those powers all the divine wishes are accomplished, so also among us the things well-pleasing to Him may come to pass. Knowing these things, then, both formerly and now having learned them from me, lay hold of this, and cling fast to peace. For it is heavenly and draws near to God.

Εἰς τὸ, «Πάτερ ἡμῶν, ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς.» Ἡ τοῦ Κυρίου διδαχὴ ἐν τῇ προσευχῇ μετὰ πάντων τῶν ἄλλων θεοπρεπῶν διδαγμάτων, καὶ, «Γενηθήτω τὸ θέλημά σου, ὡς ἐν οὐρανῷ καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς», κελεύει προσεύχεσθαι τὴν τῶν ἄνω δυνάμεων εἰρήνην, τὴν ἀστασίαστον φάσκουσα, ἣν καὶ ἡμῖν βραβεῦσαι τοῖς ἐπὶ γῆς ἀξίωσον· ἵν’ ὥσπερ ἐν αὐταῖς πάντα κατορθοῦται [τὰ] θελήματα, οὕτως καὶ ἐν ἡμῖν τὰ εὐάρεστα γένηται. Ταῦτα τοίνυν καὶ πρώην εἰδώς, καὶ νῦν μαθὼν παρ’ ἐμοῦ ἐπιλαβοῦ, καὶ ἔχου ἀπρὶξ τῆς εἰρήνης. Οὐράνιος γάρ ἐστι καὶ Θεῷ πλησιάζουσα.
