We make known, therefore, that we have entrusted to Romanus the defender, the bearer of the present letter, the patrimony of our Church, which is known to be established in the territories of Syracuse, Catania, and the neighboring places, by the protecting grace of God. And therefore, greeting you with fatherly affection, we ask that you ought to support him with your foresight, and that you furnish him in all things with the aid of your office, just as we are confident of you; so that, while he has the support of consolation in the comfort or favor of your glory, you may both show more plainly what charity you bear toward us, and we, when it shall be necessary, may hasten in all things to respond to your will.
