Bishop Simplicius to Acacius, Bishop of Constantinople. When our sons, the illustrious man Latinus the patrician and the respectable Madusius, were being sent on a public embassy, we could not neglect that which we pursue with all earnestness. For recently, when a complaint had come from the presbyters and monks concerning Timothy, who was long ago separated from the universal Church, we wrote both to the most Christian prince and to your Charity, that resistance should be made by every means, so that the audacity of the heretics might contrive nothing against the Council of Chalcedon, dearest brother; and, praising your Charity's constancy, we recorded that it pleased us greatly, indeed pleased the Lord himself, that you permitted a condemned man, not only on the charge of faith but also of parricide, to enter no church in Constantinople. And of this we now again admonish you, that when these same writings reach your Charity, indeed even until they arrive, you do not cease to act humbly before the most Christian prince, also in our name, and to make known to him that the things which have so often and so rightly been established may not be violated by any underhanded encroachment, because the sure and singular foundation of his reign is to preserve unimpaired the council of priests gathered together in the cause of the faith by the divine Spirit, for the true and eternal King.
