Letter 388

To Democritus the Monk. If a plant could bear fruit while being continually transplanted, even though it were richly watered, then you too could bring forth the fruit of righteousness while passing this way and that, and chasing after shadows and winds, and restlessly busying yourself with every place.

Ἐὰν φυτὸν δυνηθῇ καρποφορῆσαι συνεχῶς μεταφυτευόμενον, κἂν πλουτίως ἀρδεύοιτο, δυνησῇ καὶ αὐτὸς δικαιοσύνης καρπὸν ἀγαγεῖν, τῇδε κἀκεῖσε μεταβαίνων, καὶ σκιάς, καὶ ἀνέμους διώκων, καὶ πάντα τόπον ἀστάτως περιεργαζόμενος.
