Letter 338

To Pantonymus the Satrap [a provincial governor]. Having not the heart to feed the Jews and to clothe your household servants, why is it that you, making a show of liberality, forsooth, as though toward strangers approaching from outside, squander your substance upon men who are arrogant and wicked and worthless?

Τοὺς Ἰουδαίους (1) μὴ εὐψυχῶν διαθρέψαι, καὶ ἀμφιάσαι οἰκέτας, διατὶ ἐνδεικτιᾶς δῆθεν ὡς ἀλλοτρίοις ἔξωθεν προσερχομένοις ἀγερώχους, καὶ πονηροῖς, καὶ λήροις τὴν ὕπαρξιν σκορπίζων;
