Letter 162

To the same man. Our Lord Jesus Christ became, for our sake, all that we are, except sin; for he committed no sin at all. But he became everything, that is, body, soul, and mind. Flee, therefore, the nonsense of the Manichaean [Mani, founder of Manichaeism, whose teaching denied that Christ took on a real human body].

Ὁ Κύριος ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς πάντα ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν γέγονεν, ὅσα ἡμεῖς, πλὴν τῆς ἁμαρτίας· Ἁμαρτίαν γὰρ οὐδόλως ἐποίησεν. Πάντα δὲ γέγονεν, τουτέστιν σῶμα, ψυχή, νοῦς. Φεῦγε τοίνυν τὸν λῆρον τοῦ Μανιχαίου.
